24 things I have learned at 24
Yep, I turned 24. I’m almost halfway through my twenties which, quite literally, blows my mind. Am I getting old? I know many of you will roll your eyes at that comment. I can almost hear the echo of Mum’s voice saying “Oh shush, you are still so young.”. And consciously, I know that to be true. However, it only feels like yesterday I was walking through my high school doors and running to secure a seat at the back of the classroom (like a cool kid, duh). When in reality, it’s been 6 years. 6 amazing, challenging, exciting, loving, stressful, reflection-worthy years. When we think of getting old, our minds are filled with visuals of wrinkles, saggy skin and grey hair. Hopefully a multi-million dollar retirement fund and a holiday house in there too. However, the true beauty of getting old is not how we change physically, but how we learn and grow intellectually, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. There is truth in the saying “With age comes wisdom”. I understand I am nowhere near hitting that reality of “old”, nor am I as wise now as I (hopefully) will be at that age. However, I do feel that within my 24 years of living, I have learned a few things here and there. So, why not share them? Drum roll, please:
1. Practice gratitude daily. It helps to shift your perspective on all that you have as opposed to all that you lack. As well as increase your vibrational frequency to attract more abundance.
2. Only you can choose how you feel. No one has the power to “make” you feel a certain way, you are just choosing to feel that way. Choose to feel good. Choose to feel love.
3. Breathe. Just f**ken breathe. The power of 10 deep, slow breaths is wild.
4. Stop fearing judgement. People will judge you for one minute and move on to judging something or someone else the next. You can’t stop it, so you might as well let it be.
5. Write down your goals. They come to fruition quickly.
6. Procrastination is masked fear. You are just avoiding doing the work that could potentially change or better your life.
7. Perfectionism sucks a**. Let it go. You need to fail to learn and grow.
8. You become who you surround yourself with. Choose your relationships wisely.
9. We all deserve to be rich and live as lavishly as we dream. The reason you aren’t rich is because you believe you aren’t worthy of it yet.
10. Be polite, use your manners, remember people’s names and smile at strangers.
11. Don’t drink more than 2 shots of coffee a day unless you want to spaz out.
12. Eat more plants.
13. Communication is everything in relationships. You need to speak up and tell your partner what you need and your boundaries. If you don’t voice what you feel, you’ll get upset and resentful. You might also get a sore throat (not kidding). If they don’t like what they hear, they aren’t for you.
14. INVEST IN YOURSELF FIRST. When you aren’t at your best, you can’t be at your best for others. Sacrificing your needs for others is doing everyone a disservice.
15. Spotty bananas = the sweetest bananas. Save for baking and freezing for smoothie bowls.
16. Forgive, forgive and forgive. Stop letting the past control you.
17. Sleep is equally as important as what you eat and how much you exercise.
18. There is no right or wrong. There is no good or bad. It is just words we use to give meaning to things according to our perspective. Try looking at things you believe to be wrong or bad and discover how they could be right or good.
19. Listen to your mum. She is probably right (even when it’s annoying to hear).
20. The voice in your head is your ego. The only way to escape your ego is to live in the present. That is when the true self appears.
21. Trust your gut. Even if it’s telling you to take a massive risk (that’s when magic happens).
22. Change up your workouts. It makes exercise so much more exciting.
23. You deserve to work in a job that you love. Take the risk and do it. Start going to job interviews. Start studying again. Start doing it as a hobby in your spare time and gradually transition it into your full-time. Do whatever you have to. You are going to be happier, richer and more fulfilled for it. You are also going to have a much bigger impact on the world if you do.
24. If something doesn’t go your way, it’s because the time is not right (everything happens in perfect timing) or something better is on the way.
As always, I love and appreciate you. Thank you for reading! Let’s see what I’ve learnt by 25!
